Home sweet home
"We are both so grateful for the time that we spent on your farm, and for the so kind and welcoming spirits you all displayed and shared with us! I cannot express it enough! We miss you all, jump roping and playing bingo with you, gardening and selling your marvelous produce with you, and most of all sharing stories, laughter, and smiles with you! The internship (which did not feel like an internship at all, but more personal and more like visiting family) was truly one in its own, original and oh so unique, and because of your great, unique character! We have so much love for you all and I am so glad that we have stayed in touch (as best as two farmers who live far away can!!)."

Totten Farm, NJ
Bob and I started building our ever evolving diverse family farm with our children 20 years ago. We've done numerous agricultural ventures and have a wealth of experience to share. Presently we have scaled down to intensively grow crops on 3 +/- of our 75 beautiful acres in the north east kingdom of Vermont.
We sell our produce, flowers, herbs, plants and maple syrup at a busy farmers market, from our farm stand and also wholesale. 35 acres is our maple sugar bush and 20 acres is organic hay production.
We are looking for two interns to live and work on our farm from mid May through September (could be longer or shorter). There are many opportunities on our farm for an intern to try their own ideas with gardening, animals or to run an idea by us and we'll try and make it happen for you. Presently we have two calves and chickens.
Our children who helped build our farm are now 23 and 19. Our older daughter is now a chef and we're excited to start more farm events with catering while raising the food here! We've had a CSA and have raised many types of animals, as well as produce maple syrup and herbal products. We live up high and have spectacular mountain views with wonderful sun and moon rises and sets. We live in an agricultural and athletic meca, so there is much to see, learn and do in this area.
Our barn has a work shop, pottery wheel, and an outdoor bread oven. There is a small rustic cabin, large trailer, separate summer kitchen and outhouse. Hot showers in our home. A pond is on our land, and mountain biking, hiking, canoeing, fishing, climbing, swimming in fresh water lakes and rivers are all a step away. We have Wi FI here too now! We welcome apprentices into our family and farm and are excited to share our knowledge and experience.
Intern will learn salad mix production, greenhouse seeding and transplanting, field seeding and planting, many types, tools and their uses for weeding, harvesting and market prep. Intern will also learn the many varieties of produce and flowers from seed to harvest stage as well as go over season extension, seed saving, food storage, canning, dehydrating and rood cellaring and much more! We welcome the right folks into our lives and farm and are excited to share our knowledge!
The work week includes five 8 hour days. Compensation includes rustic place to live mentioned above, lunch on work days, and produce. A weekly stipend is also available. Amenities include a swimming pond, lots of nearby canoeing, hiking and biking and wi on site. Please call or email for more information; only serious candidates please.
